Does Having A Shoe Repair Place Repair The Bottom Piping On A Louis Vuitton Handbag Make It Worth Less?

How much is this bag worth? It was repaired by a shoe repair place, not Louis Vuitton. Is it made of leather or coated canvas? Thanks and here is the link for the pictures: http://cgi.ebay.com/Louis-Vuitton-Popincourt-Haut-Purse-with-dust-bag_W0QQitemZ230400973424

i agree with the person who answered earlier, but i will add:

the parts with the "LVs" are made of coated canvas, the parts with the brown trim are leather. the leather starts out a pale cream color and gets darker with age. i have seem some with the color almost as dark as the coated canvas.

because the repair was done with a completely different material that cant be cleaned and given an even color to match the rest of the bag you have lost a LOT of the value. part of the problem is that LV may not work on the bag and make repairs, for example someone could have all the leather replaced, but now that there is that part of the bottom that will not be possible.

honestly i dont think that, based on the repairs and the uneven patina that the bag is worth more than $200. you might be able to get more, but i would not be so sure.

I think the problem here is the way it was done – not really that it was done by a shoe place. The ‘repair’ looks off – the colour is different than the rest of the bag.

So – although that does de-value it there are some things you can do to get better bids.

Show more pics – especially of the heatstamp (where it says :Loius Vuitton) and any hardware — so people can tell that it’s really,
Also – try to take pics of the bag outside – these make the bag look better than the inside light.

Another tip is – do a bidding instead of a buy it now. Start it at 99 cents and you can put a reserve price on it if you don’t want it to go less than a certain amount — but by starting it at 99 cents you’ll get more bids and people will see all the bids and thik that there is a lot of demand for the bag — thus driving the price higher =)
